Do I have to book to go on a tour?

Pre-booking is essential, Please book online where possible. Edinburgh Pass users can email us at info@auldreekietours.com to book.

Where do the tours start from?

We ask guests to arrive here five minutes before the tour is due to depart. Our tours depart from: Tourist Information and Edinburgh Dungeons Police Box, Outside of the Bank of Scotland, 300 Lawnmarket, Edinburgh, EH1 2PH. This is across the road from Deacon Brodies Tavern.  (What3Words ///busy.sketch.views)

Are the tours suitable for children?

Some tours we do allow children to attend, although we do warn guests that the vaults are dark and can be scary for younger children. If you are unsure feel free to call us and ask further questions. All children aged up to 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 2 years of age not allowed on tour.

Is photography permitted on tours?

Yes. We do allow guests to take pictures on the tours, however if anyone on the tour has sensitivity to flash photography we will ask customers to switch their camera lights off at the beginning of the tour.

Are the tours suitable for people with disabilities?

Due to the historic nature of the site we do not have lifts or ramps available at our location. To enter the vaults guests must be able to climb a 2 foot tall step followed by a winding staircase.

Are the vaults wet and cold?

Our vaults have stayed in their original state since the 1700s, therefore they can be damp at times. The temperature inside the vaults is surprisingly warm. We recommend sensible footwear.

Is my dog allowed in the vaults?

No, animals are not allowed on our tours except for assistance animals such as guide dogs.

Can I drink on the tour?

Consuming alcohol or drugs on the tour is strictly forbidden. Anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be turned away.

Is there parking available?

No. We do not have dedicated parking available.
