Do I have to book to go on a tour?
Although booking is not needed for entry, we recommend guests call and reserve or book spaces on the tours to avoid disappointment. Reservations can be made over the phone or on our website.
Where do the tours start from?
We ask guests to arrive here five minutes before the tour is due to depart. Our tours depart from: Tourist Information and Edinburgh Dungeons Police Box, Outside of the Bank of Scotland, 300 Lawnmarket, Edinburgh, EH1 2PH. This is across the road from Deacon Brodies Tavern. This address may be subject to minor change. *Please note, that we do not take payments in the street. All payments are made in our ticket office. (Cash and Credit/Debit Card)
Are the tours suitable for children?
Some tours we do allow children to attend, although we do warn guests that the vaults are dark and can be scary for younger children. If you are unsure feel free to call us and ask further questions. All children aged up to 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Is photography permitted on tours?
Yes. We do allow guests to take pictures on the tours, however if anyone on the tour has sensitivity to flash photography we will ask customers to switch their camera lights off at the beginning of the tour.
Are the tours suitable for people with disabilities?
Due to the historic nature of the site we do not have lifts or ramps available at our location. To enter the vaults guests must be able to climb a 2 foot tall step followed by a winding staircase.
Are the vaults wet and cold?
Our vaults have stayed in their original state since the 1700s, therefore they can be damp at times. The temperature inside the vaults is surprisingly warm. We recommend sensible footwear.
Is my dog allowed in the vaults?
No. Due to the nature of the tours we do not recommend bringing a pet on the tour.
Is there parking available?
No. We do not have dedicated parking available.
